If it lies in hard creases during washing, the colour rubs off at the fold edges and permanent light streaks appear. To avoid this: finish the cut edges before washing (zigzag or overlock), turn fabric and sewn pieces inside out, do not overload the drum, wash at 30 degrees on a gentle or delicate cycle with liquid detergent and spin only at low speed (maximum 400 to 600 rpm). Remove from the machine straight after washing, shake out, pull into shape and air dry.
